Urban planning and mobility

Strategic planning for the development of territories is one of the topics on which local public administrations have focused most attention in recent years.

The basic idea is that at local level it is necessary to be able to read one’s own territory, select sustainable intervention priorities and guide public and private resources around these priorities.

A master plan is a general plan that through written, graphic and cartographic parts describes and schematises the overall idea of the transformation of the study area, including the visualisation of the current and future state, the definition of land uses, design guidelines, landscape and public space design, built forms, infrastructure and services.

The elaboration must identify in particular the elements of continuity between the design choices made in the intervention area and its surroundings, in particular a:

– the road network and public transport networks

– the environmental heritage with green areas and corridors

– services and equipment that interact with those located within the urban transformation area

– nodes and centralities created by the project, i.e. existing ones with which the project relates

Car parks and garages are an integral part of the urban mobility system because, contrary to popular belief, traffic flow is strongly influenced by parking conditions.

The imperviousness of the pavement surfaces of parking areas is increasingly an issue with regard to the regular flow of rainwater.

The environmental impact is different depending on the turnout of car parks;

for example, the parking area of a supermarket has a greater environmental impact than the temporary parking area of a weekly market.

In the design-realisation of parking areas, the adoption of vegetation responds to the needs to

– screen;

– shade;

– protect;

– ensure adequate landscaping of the area in which the car park is located.
